Editorial Policies

The Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Medical and Veterinary Sciences (JAIMVS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity, editorial independence, ethical conduct, transparency, and responsible use of artificial intelligence. The journal's editorial policies are designed to ensure a rigorous, fair, and transparent process for the evaluation and publication of research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, medicine, veterinary medicine, biomedical sciences, healthcare, and One Health.

1. Editorial Decision-Making

1.1. Editorial Independence

JAIMVS maintains editorial independence. Decisions regarding the acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts are based solely on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, significance, and relevance to the journal's scope. Editorial decisions are not influenced by commercial interests, financial considerations, institutional affiliations, nationality, or personal characteristics.

1.2. Fair and Unbiased Evaluation

All manuscripts are evaluated fairly and objectively. The journal does not discriminate on the basis of nationality, ethnicity, gender, institutional affiliation, career stage, or other non-scientific factors.

2. Peer Review

2.1. Rigorous Peer Review

JAIMVS uses qualified independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in artificial intelligence, medicine, veterinary medicine, biomedical sciences, data science, or other relevant disciplines.

2.2. Double-Blind Peer Review

JAIMVS operates a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential during peer review whenever practicable.

2.3. Timely and Constructive Review

The journal seeks to provide authors with timely, constructive, and scientifically rigorous editorial decisions while maintaining the quality and integrity of the peer-review process.

3. Research and Publication Ethics

3.1. Research Integrity

Authors must report their research accurately and transparently. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, inappropriate image manipulation, duplicate publication, and other forms of research or publication misconduct are unacceptable.

3.2. Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research. All listed authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission and publication.

3.3. Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other interests that could influence, or appear to influence, the research or editorial decision-making process. Conflicts of interest are managed in accordance with the journal's Conflict of Interest Policy.

3.4. Plagiarism and Originality

JAIMVS uses appropriate plagiarism-detection and similarity-checking tools to assess submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts containing plagiarism, substantial duplication, or other forms of publication misconduct may be rejected or subject to further investigation.

4. Artificial Intelligence and Responsible AI

4.1. Use of AI Tools by Authors

Authors may use artificial intelligence tools to assist with activities such as language improvement, formatting, literature organization, coding, data visualization, or other appropriate research-support tasks. However, authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and content of their manuscripts.

AI tools must not be listed as authors or credited with authorship.

4.2. Disclosure of AI Use

Where the use of AI tools materially contributes to the preparation, analysis, generation, or interpretation of a manuscript, authors should disclose the tool used and describe its role appropriately.

4.3. AI-Generated or AI-Assisted Research

Authors must ensure that AI-generated or AI-assisted content does not contain fabricated information, unsupported claims, manipulated data, plagiarism, or misleading results. The use of AI must not replace appropriate scientific judgment or human responsibility.

4.4. AI in Peer Review and Editorial Processes

Reviewers and editors must protect manuscript confidentiality and should not upload unpublished manuscripts or confidential information to publicly accessible AI systems. AI tools must not replace the independent professional judgment of reviewers or editors.

5. Ethical Approval and Informed Consent

5.1. Human Research

Research involving human participants must comply with applicable ethical standards and receive approval from an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board where required. Informed consent must be obtained when applicable.

5.2. Animal Research

Research involving animals must comply with applicable national and international standards for animal welfare and receive approval from an appropriate institutional ethics committee, animal care and use committee, or equivalent authority where required.

5.3. Human and Animal Data

Authors must ensure that personal, clinical, genomic, veterinary, or other sensitive data are collected, processed, stored, and shared in accordance with applicable ethical, legal, privacy, and data-protection requirements.

6. Transparency and Open Science

6.1. Data Sharing and Reproducibility

JAIMVS encourages authors to make underlying research data, code, algorithms, protocols, and other supporting materials available whenever ethically, legally, and technically possible.

Authors should provide an appropriate Data Availability Statement in accordance with the journal's Data Sharing Policy.

6.2. AI Model and Algorithm Transparency

Where applicable, authors should provide sufficient information about datasets, algorithms, model architecture, training procedures, validation methods, performance metrics, and relevant computational resources to allow independent assessment and reproducibility of the research.

6.3. Responsible Reporting of AI Performance

Authors should report AI performance using appropriate validation methods and relevant metrics and should clearly identify the limitations, potential biases, generalizability, and intended use of AI systems.

7. Post-Publication Discussion

JAIMVS welcomes constructive scientific discussion regarding published articles. Concerns regarding errors, research integrity, or publication ethics will be investigated in accordance with the journal's Correction and Retraction Policy.

8. Continuous Improvement

The Editorial Board regularly reviews and updates the journal's policies and procedures to remain aligned with recognized international standards, emerging developments in artificial intelligence, research ethics, and best practices in scholarly publishing.

JAIMVS is committed to promoting responsible, transparent, reproducible, and scientifically rigorous artificial intelligence research that contributes meaningfully to medicine, veterinary medicine, biomedical sciences, healthcare, and One Health.
